Mr. Petros Karalis holds a degree in Chemistry from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (N.K.U.A.). He completed his MSc in Isotopic Traceability of Greek Olive Oils in the Division of Pharmacognosy and Chemistry of Natural Products, Department of Pharmacy, N.K.U.A., and a PhD dissertation entitled Isotopic Traceability of Raw Materials in Ancient Glass at the Stable Isotope Laboratory of the National Centre for Scientific Research (N.C.S.R.) “Demokritos”, in collaboration with the Department of Geology, N.K.U.A. Since 2011, he has been working at the Stable Isotope Laboratory of N.C.S.R. “Demokritos” and has participated in dozens of research projects, both European and national. His research focuses on traceability, authenticity, and geographic origin of foods, natural products, wine products, and raw materials (modern and archaeological), as well as on the development of long-term isotope databases. He has authored a total of 50 publications in peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, and international conferences, and has attended numerous scientific conferences. He has established collaborations with research centers and universities in Greece, including the Departments of Pharmacy, Food Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, and Geology at N.K.U.A., Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (A.U.T.H.), and the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (C.E.R.T.H.), as well as internationally with the University of Pisa and the Italian National Research Council (C.N.R.). He has extensive experience in implementing Research and Innovation projects on foods, raw materials, and archaeological materials.
