Mobile application development is growing rapidly in Greece, Israel and worldwide, following the trends in the de-livery of innovative services and solutions in emerging domains ranging from mobile applications related to cultural heritage and tourism to enterprise services, advertisement, education, health and etc. MOMIRAS envisages re-searching and developing an innovative SDK platform that copes with an emergent mobile application domain, i.e. mixed reality, targeting to the delivery of new services and AR-enabled features that fully exploit the range data stemming from the next generation of mobile 3D sensors. To this end, the project will provide a highly novel pro-gramming environment that will exploit recent advances in mobile 3D sensing and will enable such processes as 3D range image-based registration, object detection, optimized AR rendering and 3D content-bases search. Moreover, by introducing these novel features, it will further facilitate the development of new and emerging applications in the area of augmented/mixed reality and will contribute to the generation of new credible business models in the two collaborative countries as well as worldwide. Therefore, MOMIRAS aims to reinforce all key stakeholders in the AR value chain, such as Augmented Reality researchers, application developers, content and cultural heritage providers, industrial players, e.g. automotive and manufacturing domains, in utilizing new solutions for better marketing and disseminating their assets and products to the end-user community.

The project aims to fulfil the expectations and needs of the market for the next generation of AR-enabled application and services by providing a complete set of tools that would both improve currently supported 3D Augmented Reality features and would expand them by utilizing novel technologies (based on range image sensing) and algorithms (e.g. adaptive scene interactions, interaction simulation engine utilizing audio-visual cues for optimized immersive ex-perience etc.).
