GINNGER’s technical approach relies in addressing the digital transformation Europe is undergoing, with the aim of empowering society by taking advantage of smart and digital tools for a smooth transition into the digital era. For that purpose, GINNGER will enhance, implement, and validate a digital toolkit supporting the problems identification of built settlements, as well as to outline technical ways to solve them, improving both urban and rural environments. With that, it is expected to increase quality of life, supporting production and management of public services, enabling modelling and prediction of neighborhoods loads, decarbonizing consumptions and deal with environmental risks. To achieve that, GINNGER will focus on four key aspects of regeneration by working on 13 digital solutions grouped in four blocks:

> Energy block: This block will include methods and solutions for energy efficiency and management. For that, tools aimed at the design and management of energy communities and its assets will be developed and implemented. These tools will include concepts for local renewable generation and consumption and local heat sources integration and how energy communities should be connected through intra and inter markets.

> Renovation block: The process of renovating buildings is one of the main targets for neighborhood regeneration. In the process, it is necessary to increase the attractiveness of renovation solutions and how those renovation will impact in the habitability of buildings.

> Resources block: Circular economy is a key challenge in districts regeneration, for that, GINNGER will propose solutions for the efficient and sustainable use of resources, especially those coming from construction works. A mean to achieve that, will be the definition of sustainable local value chains and how local resources can be used and optimized both in terms of use and of end-of life.
> Mobility block: At district level, GINNGER will present a group of solutions for optimizing the daily habits of citizens. These include the design of public spaces involving all stakeholders and focusing on mobility concepts.

CERTH is participating in the project with two institutes: Information Technologies Institute (ITI) and Chemical Process Engineering Research Institute (CPERI). CERTH ITI participates as an advisor in ‘Establishing a catalogue of regeneration actions for the co-creation first phase’, ‘definition of GINNGER common information and procedures models’ and ‘development of the digital solutions from the Energy Block’. CERTH ITI is also leading the activities on Development of the digital solutions from the Renovation Block, where a Digital Twin tool (AGIFLY), an Air Quality tool and an SRI Assessment tool are foreseen. Finally, CERTH ITI is partially responsible for the implementation and validation of the GINNGER digital toolkit in the pilots.
