EMERGE aims to establish an open-access, distributed research infrastructure supporting user projects across the entire FLAPEP value chain, from advanced materials such as paper, textiles, and biocompatible polymers to the design and manufacturing of devices and systems. The project integrates advanced hybrid printing technologies, including roll-to-roll (R2R) and functional 3D printing, combined with in-line inspection tools and automated systems for high-throughput materials characterisation. These capabilities are supported by an AI-powered knowledge repository, enabling efficient design and optimisation of emerging applications. EMERGE promotes innovation by enabling faster and more cost-effective development of sustainable and recyclable electronic products (“half-the-time/half-the-cost”), contributing to the circular economy and the European Green Deal. The project will support at least 1,400 users through cross-border access while establishing collaborative clusters and innovation hubs to accelerate technology uptake and exploitation.

CERTH/ITI plays an important technical role in the EMERGE project, contributing to the development and integration of digital technologies supporting the research infrastructure. In particular, CERTH focuses on data management, analysis, and AI-driven tools, as well as the development of interoperable systems and services that enhance the efficiency and accessibility of the infrastructure.
