The topic of the proposed project is the enhancement of the landscape history that an ecologically important region has, aiming to increase the experience, the knowledge and the delight that visitors obtain through their tour in the landscape. The enhancement will be carried out by creating a multifunctional application of mixed reality, which will represent the environmental history of the selected region. The proposed applications have as their core an ecological model, which will simulate the dynamic of the landscape over time, taking into account the basic environmental parameters that determine the observed changes. This model will

represent the real history of the landscape in a realistic manner, and

provide for the possibility of simulating alternative historical scenarios, through regulating some prices of the model’s parameters.

The construction of the model will be based on an in-depth, on-the-spot investigation and thorough bibliography research of the selected region, combining different investigation methods of natural and social sciences (mapping, overview of aerial photographs, monitoring of fauna and flora, palynology, climatology, anthropological research). The results of the research will be transcribed into a set of quantified parameters, whose price time series will feed the ecological model. Subsequently, the model will be visualized with 2D and 3D landscape simulations, providing a representation of the landscape

as it was in the past,

as it would have evolved if some of the parameters which shaped its history had changed, and

as it will be in the future, depending on the parameters that affect it today.

These latter possibilities in particular, are expected to increase the contribution of the application to the objectives of the environmental education and environmental awareness.
