D2EPC project ambitiously aims to set the grounds for the next generation dynamic EPCs. The proposed framework engages actual measured data coming from smart devices and introduces a set of novel and user-friendly indicators by employing 6D Level 3 BIM for producing a building’s digital twin representation. The proposed indicators for smart-readiness, sustainability, environmental, human comfort and financial aspects will make EPCs a realistic, accurate and comprehensive information source that can induce energy efficient behavioural change and stimulate towards smart buildings. The D2EPC digital platform will enable the issuance of next generation EPCs on a regular basis and will be armored with additional services, providing user-centred recommendations for efficient renovation, forecasting of buildings’ operating conditions and issuing reports and notifications in case of inefficient operation that could lead to EPC label downgrade. To maximize the potential impact of these certificates, D2EPC indicates the potential paths for performance improvements by comparing building’s performance regarding particular metrics (i.e. human comfort, health-wellbeing, occupancy, energy use), while on the same time ensuring the credibility and quality of the assessment process. The proposed scheme will provide sufficient background for the redefinition of EPC related policies and update of current standards, along with sufficient guidance for their implementation and introduces “polluter pays” practices into the EPC rationale. The use of geolocation to represent on a GIS environment the actual performance of buildings will enhance user awareness of building’s energy efficiency, facilitating planning and decision making on local and regional policy level. D2EPC framework will be demonstrated in relevant environments in 6 use case buildings. 12 partners from 7 European countries will collaborate and provide their expertise and resources within the 36 months of D^2EPC lifetime.
