CITADEL-Range

CITADEL Range seeks to upgrade European defence technology in the field of cyber ranges. The vision is built on the EU’s strategic shift from cyber responsive operations to full spectrum cyber defence operations. The next-generation modular products and concepts aim to provide tailored solutions for the entire value chain of cyber forces, focusing on EU/Member State needs and holistic cyber defence (as opposed to civilian cyber security). The project delivers advanced capabilities for training, exercising, and mission rehearsal in realistic, cost-efficient environments – covering cross-border classified exercises, realistic cyber operations toolkits, and integration of cyber within MDO exercises, leveraging digital twins and AI. Solutions are scalable, customizable and user-driven, aiming to complement existing national cyber ranges rather than delivering a standalone one.

CERTH/ITI leads Task T2.9, which focuses on the technical feasibility analysis of Pooling & Sharing (P&S) – one of the main topics of the project – the definition of the corresponding technical concept, and the specification of the topic’s technical requirements. The task includes analysing the state of the art in the utilisation and collaboration/federation of cyber range resources, with emphasis on interoperability standards (e.g. Exercise Description Language – EDL), AI techniques for pooling and sharing, and the definition of assets and scenarios. Additionally, CERTH/ITI leads the development of the service recommendation engine – an AI-based module for managing, validating and proposing federated cyber-range scenarios, along with the situational awareness engine that aims to provide a cyber awareness picture of training participants, based on data/logs collection, advanced analysis and visualization.
