Ioannis Manakos has been working and cooperating with an international network of academics and researchers since 1996, operating within and outside the auspices of International Organizations and Networks, such as
* the European Association of Remote Sensing Laboratories (EARSeL), where he served as Chairman till June 2014, and Chairman of the Special Interest Group of ‘Remote Sensing in Land Use & Land Cover’ till June 2020;
* the GEOBON Flagship (and other initiatives) within the Group on Earth Observations, where he serves as member;
* the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM), leading Geoinformation in Environmental Management Dpt. for seven (7) years, and since his recruitment by CERTH, he is assigned the title of Adjunct Professor of the relevant MSc Curriculum;
* the South Central and Eastern European Regional Information Network (SCERIN) and the Mediterranean Regional Information Network (MEDRIN), regional networks of the GOFC-GOLD (Global Observation of Forest and Land Cover Dynamics) and GTOS (Global Terrestrial Observing System), where he served, among others, as activity Lead in relation with the evaluation of the Global Land Cover Maps ‘Global/Continental land cover products validation and intercomparison in the SCERIN area’; and
* the Copernicus Academy, where he serves as a member.

He has been submitting, coordinating or participating in EU, bilateral, and national projects (H2020s, FPs, INTERREGs, etc.) for more than a decade (more than 45 realized international & national projects). Activity topics concerned Copernicus (former GMES), Space and Airborne Remote Sensing, and its Complementatarity and Synergy with in-situ measurements, Environmental Resources Management, Soil Erosion Risk Assessment, Agricultural Practices Monitoring, Precision Agriculture, Regional and Rural Development, Management of Ecosystems, and Tourism; all addressed under the perspective of geospatial data handling.
His publication record comprises of numerous articles in renowned Journals, Conferences, and Books.
