Eirini Agapi Gounopoulou is a research assistant at the Information Technologies Institute (ITI) of the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH), contributing to Horizon Europe and Innovative Health Initiative (IHI) projects, including GRACE and IMPROVE.

She holds a Master of Science (MSc) in Economics with Cum Laude distinction from KU Leuven (Belgium) and dual Bachelor’s degrees—a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Economics and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mathematics—from Lewis & Clark College (USA). She is currently completing the MITx MicroMasters program in “Data, Economics, and Design of Policy: International Development”. Over the course of her academic career, she has been awarded several prestigious honors, including the George and Victoria Karelias Foundation Scholarship, the Shelby Davis Scholarship, the UWC Costa Rica Scholarship, and Dean’s List awards.

Prior to joining CERTH/ITI, she served as a Lecturer of Economics at the School of Business and Economics, Maastricht University (Netherlands), where she guided undergraduate tutorial groups using Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and supervised research projects in data analysis and economic modeling. She has also worked as a Trainee at the European Court of Auditors (Luxembourg) in Chamber II (Investment for cohesion, growth, and inclusion), conducting public expenditure reviews and data analysis for EU-funded programs. Her primary research interests lie at the intersection of development economics and inequality, applied microeconomics and public policy, and applied econometrics.
