Postdoctoral Research Associate

I am senior research scientist at the Information Technologies Institute, Centre for Research and Technology – Hellas (CERTH-ITI), and I have been adjunct Lecturer at the Open University of Cyprus since 2018. I hold a BSc degree (2004) in Computer Science from the University of Crete, and an MSc (2007) and PhD degree (2013) in Medical Informatics from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. I was appointed as postdoctoral researcher in Mobile Health at the Department of Engineering Science, University of Oxford from 2013-2015, and I have been awarded with 2 national postdoctoral fellowships of “Excellence” from the Greek State Scholarships Foundation (IKY) since 2015. My research interests include medical informatics, pervasive and mobile computing, and artificial intelligence. Since 2007, I have worked as Task Leader, WP Leader, or Technical Coordinator in EU, UK NHS-funded projects, as well as national projects, leading in the design, development and evaluation of novel and intelligent digital health systems toward improving patient health outcomes and medical decisions. I won 2 best paper awards in international conferences (ISAMI 2011, MobiHealth 2010), and I was the recipient of the award for the “excellent research activity during the MSc. Studies in the Medical School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki”, in 2009. I have published my research in numerous leading international peer-reviewed journals in the fields of medical engineering, such as the Journal of Medical Internet Research, and the IEEE Journal of Biomedical and Health Informatics, being the first leading author for >15 journal articles, and co-author for several others. My research has been cited by some of the best universities in the world such as the University of Oxford, the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Michigan. I have been Guest Editor for the journals: IEEE JBHI, International Journal of EnvironmentaI Research & Public Health, Sensors, Digital, Information, Frontiers in Digital Health. I have been chair of the flagship EAI PervasiveHealth 2022 conference and the DIGHI 2019 workshop conducted in parallel with the IEEE BIBE 2019 International conference. I have served as PC member or organising committee member for several international conferences, and I have been Assistant Editor for the MedInfo 2017/MedInfo 2019 world congress. I have also been appointed as expert evaluator for research projects and proposals from EU, Greece, Latvia, Serbia, and Singapore. Key results of my research have been featured in Deutsche Welle (2016), OxfordMail (2015), and Tech Talks Central (2014).
