Mr. Sotirios Kafetzopoulos

Research Assistant

  • Informatics Engineering (Bachelor's)
  • Data Science and Machine Learning (Master's)

I am a software engineer with a strong interest in both software development and machine learning. I am also experienced in LLMOps and MLOps, deploying and implementing AI Agents.

As part of my internship at the Natural Interaction Learning Games Lab (NiLE-lab) in Heraklion, Crete (Sep 2020 – May 2021), I developed a Java-based application using OpenCV to segment 20 types of pollen grains. I led the entire development cycle—from UI design to file handling and an integrated editing tool. This work resulted in a research publication in Applied Sciences, with citations and recommendations on ResearchGate.

In addition to this, I have worked on a variety of personal and academic projects. These include a real-time object detection demo using Python, Docker, and RabbitMQ; a desktop app for managing frozen food warehouse inventory (Java, MySQL); and multiple Android apps, such as a story-based game and a Covid-19 data visualization tool using RESTful APIs. I also developed a desktop app to visualize NYPD data and built a remote-controlled weather station using ESP32, C++, and Node-RED, capable of recording environmental data like temperature, humidity, and light intensity.
