Our activity spans various facets of wireless and internet communication technologies. We work on the foundations: information theory, multiuser communications and stochastic networks as well as on architectures, protocols and cross layer techniques. Wireless technologies within scope include high speed mobile communications (3G, 4G, LTE) as well as local and wide area wireless internet (wimax, wifi). MIMO, cross-layer combining physical layer elements (modulation, coding power control) with adaptive access methods and routing, network coding and cooperative communications are specific thrusts of our research. Wireless adhoc networks and sensor networks is another challenging application domain of our research efforts above. In the internet domain our current focus is on service oriented engineering and various content distribution technologies, including peer-to-peer like architectures.
Our activity outlined above is complemented and supported by extensive experimentation in our growing wireless testbed facility we recently established in our premises. The NITOS platform which stands for Network Implementation Testbed using Open Source code is a wireless testbed that consists of nodes based on open source software. The platform is open to any researchers who would like to test their protocols in a real-time wireless network. They are given the opportunity to implement their protocols and study their behavior in a custom tailor-made environment.
