Interactive Media Systems Group, Vienna University of Technology
The Interactive Media Systems Group (established in 2000) is a working group within the Institute of Software Technology and Interactive Systems (Head: Prof. A Min Tjoa). We dedicate our work to fundamental research and education in the area of multimedia. Our main areas of work are video and multimedia processing, web-based information systems, and virtual reality. More information on research, teaching and other activities in our group can be found on our website, http://www.ims.tuwien.ac.at/.

Relevant activities at the IMS include the media processing projects Video3D and VizIR. The Video3D project focuses on the 3D analysis of moving scenes that were captured by two or more synchronized video cameras. The work entails research in the fields of stereo analysis and optical tracking, human motion capture, and MPEG encoding. The VizIR project aims at implementing an extendible workbench for content-based retrieval of image and video content. Essentially, VizIR provides two class frameworks for querying (including the visual MPEG-7 descriptors) and user interface design in visual information retrieval. Implementation is based on Java, Java2D (image processing), Java Media Framework (video processing) and Gl4Java (3D user interfaces). VizIR is an open project under GNU public license. Both projects are supported by the Austrian Scientific Research Fund (FWF). More information on Video3D can be found under http://www.ims.tuwien.ac.at/research/video3d/. More information on VizIR can be found on the project webserver, http://cbvr.ims.tuwien.ac.at/.
