The Image Processing Lab of the University of Trieste specializes on the restoration of old movies, of videotape archives, and of vintage photographic prints, in collaboration with several Institutions as well as private companies such as Fratelli Alinari SpA (a SCHEMA partner).

Other areas of research at IPL which are related to SCHEMA include:
• Dynamic range control and contrast enhancement in normal and high dynamic range images, based on a pseudo-Retinex approach.
• curve-based techniques for the detection of piecewise smooth and soft boundaries regions.
• active contour growing techniques in the framework of the level-set theory.
• analysis of temporal textures using the gray level co-occurrence matrix.

IPL is a partner in the relevant COST276 European project.
