Multimedia Research Group
Middle East Technical University is one of the most prestigious universities in Turkey over 20.000 enrolled BS, MS and PhD students. Multimedia Research Group of Electrical-Electronics Engineering Department is a newly formed group with two faculty members:

Assoc. Prof. A. Aydın Alatan (www.eee.metu.edu.tr/~alatan)
Assoc. Prof. Gözde Bozdağı Akar (www.eee.metu.edu.tr/~bozdagi)
and 6 PhD, 16 Master and 4 Bachelor degree students.

The group has been recently joined COST 276 action and the members of the Multimedia Research Group have made significant contributions to the past research activities of COST211ter.

Multimedia Research Group has the following research profile:

MULTIMEDIA MANAGEMENT AND ADAPTATION: Reaching from low-level features to semantics, face detection/recognition, motion analysis and moving object segmentation, universal multimedia access, multimedia adaptation to mobile devices using transcoding/scalable coding

DATA HIDING : HVS-based watermarking, hiding data into video for non-security applications, such as robust video transmission, watermark attack modelling, optimal quantization for oblivious data hiding

PACKET VIDEO : Quality of services issues in video transmission over different domains, such as Diffserv architecture, and scalable video, rate adaptation

REAL-TIME VIDEO TRANSMISSION, STREAMING: H.263+, MPEG4 streaming studies, implementations on DSP

HUMAN MACHINE INTERACTION : HMI using Hidden Markov Models, Machine
mimicking from visual clues
