The Image Processing Group of Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya (UPC) (P10) has a strong background in video coding, indexing and information retrieval.

It has developed a large number of video coding, processing and analysis tools such as video segmentation (regions and shots), region tracking, motion estimation, shape coding, bit-rate control, face detection/segmentation/recognition and extraction of low-level video descriptors (colour, texture, shape, motion, etc.).

It has participated in several related European projects such as MORPHECO, MAVT, MoMuSys, VIDAS, DICEMAN and HYPERMEDIA. Moreover, the group is closely following the MPEG standardization process (MPEG-4 and currently MPEG-7).

The group will contribute its algorithms and its expertise on the MPEG-7 standard (Schema design, Binarization and delivery of description, XML, etc.) to the Network.
