Tampereen Teknillinen Korkeakoulu (Tampere University of Technology) (TUT) (P2) is project coordinator of the Algorithm Group of COST211 quat.

The TUT aim is to achieve a fast, real-time and reliable audio/video (AV) browsing and indexing application, which is also capable of extracting well-defined key features of the AV media. This application is mainly designed to work on specific AV databases that are created from arbitrary TV channels or live cameras. Consequently, it will have strong practical usage potential and give performance criteria on such usage areas. Another goal is to develop tools for managing and mining multi-spectral images in distributed environment.

TUT already has strong links and will cooperate with Nokia Mobile Phones, Tampere Technology Center and Purdue University, ABB Industry Drives, Saanio&Riekkola Corp. TUT has also substantial experience in information retrieval and will assist the consortium in bringing the textual and multimedia information retrieval methods into a common framework.
