The Laboratoire d'Informatique, Signaux et Systèmes de Sophia-Antipolis (I3S) (P5) is a research unit associated with the CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique) and with the Université de Nice Sophia Antipolis. It represents about 150 researchers, organized around six thematic groups.

It will provide methods for image and video coding, and for image and video segmentation for MPEG-4 and MPEG-7 applications.

The team is involved in several industrial contracts (CNES FT R&D) and national project RNRT and international academic collaborations with Belgium, Italy, and the US (Stanford). It will strive for increased cooperation with these partners in the framework of the SCHEMA Network of Excellence.
